AINOW Society has developed the Western Balkans EU AI Act Tracker, a public platform designed to monitor how countries across the region are preparing for and aligning with the European Union’s AI Act.
The tracker was conceived and built by Suad Seferi, President of AINOW Society, as part of the organisation’s work in artificial intelligence policy, education and responsible technology development.
The platform is also part of the broader development of AI Balkans into a regional AI hub, bringing together independent reporting, regulatory monitoring, research, practical tools and regional knowledge in one place.
Available through AI Balkans, the tracker follows developments across Western Balkan countries, including changes in legislation, responsible institutions, transparency requirements, high-risk AI systems, fundamental rights and national implementation capacity.
The goal is to make a complex regulatory process easier to understand and to show how prepared each country is for alignment with the EU AI Act.
AI regulation will not happen through one law or announcement. It will require legal reforms, capable institutions, technical expertise and clear safeguards for citizens. The tracker provides a structured regional overview and will continue to be updated as new developments emerge.
For AINOW Society, the project demonstrates the importance of building practical public-interest technology from North Macedonia.
It also marks another step in the growth of AI Balkans from a regional media platform into a wider hub for AI news, policy, knowledge and digital tools serving the Western Balkans.
